I had been using the Garmin 205 for a number of years. I would lose the satellite signal when I was in a wooded area or near buildings. The 305 is much improved in that regard…it has a stronger receiver. I am very satisfied with the product and could not see running without it. The one negative I have is when checking statistics of past runs, the characters are very small compared to the 205. However, I am uploading everything now to Gamin Connect and it keep great stats on all of my runs.

I would highly recommend the Garmin 305 to anyone that runs on a regular basis. Once you try it–you won’t leave home without it.

THE HELP is told in three voices and from three viewpoints. Two voices belong to Aibilene and Minny, African-American maids or “help” assisting white families with housework and raising the children in Jackson, Mississippi. The other viewpoint is Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a 22-year-old graduate of Ole Miss, white daughter of a cotton farmer, unsure of her place in life. She’s unmarried and wants a career, and her mother’s primary goal in life is to get her settled close to home, married and pregnant with “help” of her own. The setting is the South (you can feel the heat and humidity) and the time is 1962-1964, the years of Medgar Evers’ murder, Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream..” speech, the March on Washington, and great civil unrest. Each woman is unique and completely memorable. In fact, this entire book is peopled with characters that are vivid, well-rounded and seem to jump off the page. As different as their lives are, Aibilene, Minny and Skeeter will come together to write a book in secret (oh, very much in secret) about the lives and stories of black maids in Jackson. During this process, each woman will change, grow and learn so much about the others and also, more importantly, about herself. The reader is privileged to take this journey with these wonderful women and share their discoveries. It is a rare treat.

I loved this book. I loved these women. I want to know them and follow their lives after this book. I think that Kathryn Stockett has written a very compelling debut novel. It would be a great book for book groups with lots of discussion potential.

The book Artemis Fowl is a quick fictional read. In its plot are fairies, elves, sprites, gnomes, dwarves, and goblins. Artemis Fowl is the main character, a criminal mastermind who plans to steal gold from the fairies in order to make his family rich.

Artemis managed to find a fairy and get the fairy’s Book, a book that every fairy carries around. The Book held all the secrets of fairies. Unfortunately for Artemis, the book was written in the “old tongue”, the fairy language, which no human understood. However, this was no large obstacle for a genius like Artemis. He quickly decoded the book and used the secrets described in it to capture a fairy (captain Holly Short) to hold ransom for a ton (literally) of 24 carat gold. In the end, the fairies got back half of the gold and a dwarf stole the other half.

For me, this book is as interesting and as attractive as Harry Potter. However, if you prefer to read realistic stories, I do not suggest this book for you.
